Washington D.C – Nov 19, 2020 (Clarity Times) The Trump administration announced on Tuesday that the United States is preparing to withdraw several thousands of US troops from Afghanistan and Iraq by Jan 15, 2021, which is five days before the new administration takes office.
As of now, there are about 4,500 US soldiers in Afghanistan and 3,000 in Iraq. The U.S government announced that it would withdraw 2,000 troops from Afghanistan and 500 from Iraq. This measure will not affect any of the US policies or objectives toward these countries according to government officials.
Many experts believe that a disorganized retreat can jeopardize the record of major successes the US government has accomplished over the years. The NATO’s secretary, Jens Stoltenberg, on his part worries that a premature departure from Afghanistan and Iraq can be costly for these countries, the United States, and its allies.
